Statement as of 9:55 PM EDT on April 16, 2014

The Flood Warning continues for the Muskegon river near Croton. * Until further notice. * At 8:45 PM Wednesday the stage was 12.4 feet. * Flood stage is 9.0 feet. * Moderate flooding is occurring and moderate flooding is forecast. * Forecast...the river will continue to fall to a stage of 12.0 feet by Friday morning. * 13.0 feet...expect major flooding of cottages and homes upstream of Newaygo on Salmon run and Russell Road in Croton township...The Devils Hole area...and Gardner drive in Brooks township. Expect major flooding of homes downstream of Newaygo in the Anderson flats area...Sugar Bush Lane and Maple drive...Bell Meadow drive...and the lower Bridgeton area. Expect water to be over South River drive in the lower Bridgeton area. River Lane impassable in the old womans Bend area.

The National Weather Service in Grand Rapids has extended the

* Flood Warning for... Newaygo County in west central Michigan... Oceana County in west central Michigan...

* until 900 PM EDT Thursday

* at 813 PM EDT...emergency management reported areas of flooding are still occurring. Many secondary roads are still under water. Roadway repairs are ongoing. Small creeks and streams have peaked and are beginning a slow fall. Flood waters will slowly recede and conditions will noticeably improve over the next several days.

* Some locations that will experience flooding include...Newaygo... Pentwater...Bitely...Fremont...Shelby...White Cloud...Aetna...Big Prairie...Bishop...Colfax...Croton Heights...Lilley...Oxbow...St. Huberts...Volney...Weare and Wooster.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Excessive runoff from heavy rainfall has caused flooding of small creeks and well as farmland along the banks of creeks and streams.

Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the dangers of flooding. If flash flooding is observed act quickly. Do not enter the water. Turn around and move up to higher ground to escape flood waters. Do not stay in areas subject to flooding when water begins rising.
