The National Weather Service in Grand Forks has issued a

* Flood Watch for portions of Minnesota and North Dakota...
including the following areas... in Minnesota... Clay... east
Becker... east Marshall... east Otter Tail... east Polk... Grant...
Hubbard... Kittson... Lake
of The Woods... Mahnomen... Norman... North Beltrami... North
Clearwater... Pennington... Red Lake... Roseau... south
Beltrami... South Clearwater... Wadena... west Becker... west
Marshall... west Otter Tail... west Polk and Wilkin. In North
Dakota... Barnes... Benson... Cass... Cavalier... eastern
Walsh... eddy... Grand Forks... Griggs... Nelson...
Pembina... Ramsey... Ransom... Richland... Sargent... Steele...
Towner... Traill and western Walsh.

* Through Tuesday evening

* many areas have received two to three inches of rain in the past
few days. An additional 1 to 2 inches of rain is possible today
and tomorrow on top of already saturated ground. Some overland
areal flooding is possible in low lying areas.


Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Flood Watch means there is a potential for flooding based on
current forecasts.

You should monitor later forecasts and be alert for possible
flood warnings. Those living in areas prone to flooding should be
prepared to take action should flooding develop.

* At 3:30 am Monday the stage was 9.7 feet.
* Minor flooding is possible.
* Flood stage is 20.0 feet.
* Forecast... flood stage may be reached by Thursday early afternoon.

A record daily rainfall of 1.37 inches was set yesterday at Grand
Forks univ. (Nws) ND. This breaks the previous record of 0.80 inches
set in 1950.

In addition... a record daily rainfall of 1.35 inches was set at
Grand Forks Intl ap yesterday. This breaks the previous record of
0.74 inches... also set in 1950.
