Subject: change in upper air software at WFO Blacksburg

Effective: Aug 2016

Note: the following changes have no impact on NOAA weather wire service subscribers.

The last upper air sounding at weather forecast office Blacksburg, VA operating at a frequency of 1680 mhz via the radiosonde replacement system /rrs/ was released at 12z on Tuesday Aug 16 2016. All soundings thereafter will be conducted utilizing the transitional radiosonde observing system /tros/, which operates at a frequency of 403 mhz.

The header for Blacksburg Virginia, krnk /station ID 72318/ has not changed with the introduction of the tros. The official header of the Blacksburg office will continue to be used for transmission of official products.
