... Warmer and much wetter than normal conditions for June 2009...
Eastern Kentucky was plagued with another very wet month... with both Jackson and London receiving over two inches more than normal. Both locations saw last month end up in the top ten wettest junes... with the Jackson weather office placing fourth... and the London Corbin Airport finishing seventh. In fact... may and June combined were more than six inches wetter than normal at both locations. Furthermore... Jackson and London saw the two month period of may and June end up as the second wettest may and June totals on record. Of further interest... it was the wettest April through June period at London... while it was the 4th wettest at Jackson over that same timeframe. Thanks to this wet pattern over the last few months... both locations saw their 2009 totals for the first six months of the year rank in the top ten as well. The Jackson weather office finished at 8th... and the London Corbin Airport ended up as the 5th wettest January through June on record. June was also slightly warmer than normal as well. The Jackson weather office finished last month about one degree above normal... while the London Corbin Airport ended up about a degree and a half warmer. Also... June 2009 was the ninth warmest June on record at London.
The National Weather Service office near Jackson finished June 2009 with an average temperature of 72.3 degrees... which is 0.9 degrees above the normal of 71.4 degrees. The average daily high was 81.2 degrees... and the average daily low was 63.4 degrees. The highest temperature for June 2009 was 89 degrees... which occurred on the 19th. The lowest temperature from June was 52 degrees on the 6th. A high temperature record was tied on the 2nd with a reading of 86 degrees. No low temperature records were tied or set last month. A maximum low temperature record was established on the 20th with a reading of 74 degrees. This also tied as the second warmest low temperature ever for June... only behind the 75 degrees from June 9th 1981.
