Subject: the National Weather Service (nws) in Cleveland will adjust the river Flood Warning services for the Mahoning river at Youngstown and Leavittsburg effective September 10, 2014
After a NWS survey of the Mahoning river in Trumbull and Mahoning counties...it was determined that the flood stage at Youngstown (ygwo1) will be raised from 10 feet to 14 feet. Moderate flood stage will be raised from 15.0 feet to 16.0 feet. Major flood stage will remain at 20.5 feet.
At the river forecast point in Leavittsburg (leao1) the major flood stage will be lowered from 16.5 feet to 15.0 feet.
The NWS recently transitioned from issuing County based river flood warnings to polygon river flood warnings. Flood warnings for the Mahoning river at Youngstown currently alert for Mahoning County only. The new polygon warnings for ygwo1 will extend from Niles in southern Trumbull County to Struthers in eastern Mahoning County...incorporating alerts for Trumbull County into the warnings.
