Special Statement
Statement as of 7:12 AM EST on January 30, 2015

...Accumulating snow showers coupled with falling temperatures and windy conditions this morning...

Light snow and flurries will increase in coverage this morning as an area of heavier snow showers makes it way over the West Virginia mountains. Between now and 10 am...expected periods of light snow with heavier snow showers. Accumulations will generally be less than an inch across the New River and Greenbrier valleys...with between 1 and 2 inches possible in the higher elevations near the West Virginia and Virginia border...including Bluefield. Upwards of 4 inches of snow is likely in the West Virginia Highlands northwest of Lewisburg. These snow showers will end...or taper back to just flurries for the afternoon.

In addition to the light accumulation of snow...it will be windy with temperatures falling into the 20s. This will result in the likelihood of the snow sticking to untreated surfaces...with roads becoming slick and hazardous...and especially for those counties near the Virginia...West Virginia border...and into The Highlands of West Virginia. Winter weather advisories are in effect for the West Virginia Highlands through mid-day.
