The National Weather Service in Blacksburg has issued a

* Special Weather Statement for... western Floyd County in southwest Virginia... eastern Grayson County in southwest Virginia... Carroll County in southwest Virginia... Montgomery County in southwest Virginia... Pulaski County in southwest Virginia... eastern Wythe County in southwest Virginia...

* until 1030 PM EDT

* at 947 PM EDT...National Weather Service Doppler radar was tracking strong thunderstorms along a line extending from near Dublin to near Elk Creek...moving to the east at 30 mph.

* Wind gusts up to 40 mph are expected with these storms. Very heavy rain is falling...and will cause water to pond on roadways and quickly fill roadside ditches and small streams.

* These storms will sweep across the New River valley between now and 1100 PM.

* Locations impacted include... Blacksburg... Christiansburg... pilot... Radford... and Indian Valley.

This includes Virginia tech.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Prolonged heavy rainfall may cause water to flow over the roadway. Do not drive your vehicle where the Road has become flooded.
