A hard freeze was experienced across much of our area Saturday morning. Most sites reported minimum temperatures from the upper 20s to lower 30s. As a result... the growing season has ended for the year for the Virginia Piedmont... much of central... eastern and Southside Virginia... as well as interior northeastern North Carolina and the lower Eastern Shore. NWS Wakefield will not issue frost and freeze products until the growing season starts again in Spring 2010.

NWS forecasts indicate that no further threat of a hard freeze is expected before the climatologically favored end of the growing season. Therefore... freeze products will continue to be issued across Hampton Roads... the eastern Tidewater area and coastal northeastern North Carolina until a hard freeze is experienced... or until the growing season ends.
