I've not forgotten about tonight's light snow... Even though I'm writing this entry from my phone. The first clipper I talked about in my last post will be rolling in tonight.
Honestly there's not much to say about this system. It'll be a quick storm that'll start around midnight and end around rush hour.
Expect 0.5" of snow tonight.
UPDATE: Friday, 8:34pm Last night's clipper did equal half an inch of snow, which seemed to slow this morning's commute just a little.
Now we're looking at clipper number two to sweep through quickly tonight and tomorrow morning. Early forecasts had most of the snow staying well north of us, and I believe it still will... but we'll probably get a very light dusting. Honestly, not enough to measure, so not enough to make a prediction on.
Coming up... Nocaneindy was the first to mention below in the comments that we have the potential for a huge storm next week. This is a little less than 5 days out, so it's really hard to say where this storm will track. But with our recent streak of weak storms, hit or miss this will be a major player in next week's weather.
I'm getting a little luckier here. The heaviest area of snow I'm going to see is moving through now, and we are at about an inch as I type. Local NWS called for around an inch, the local TV mets said 1-2", so I'll give both a bone for a good call. Probably finish with around 1.25-1.50".
I'm still holding out hope for a big one yet! Like you said in a previous blog, January just may end relatively tame. Here's to hoping February brings a beast!
One last thing. I don't know if you've seen it or not, but the NWS has released an assessment report for the May 2010 floods in and around Nashville. It's a very informative read and highlights where improvements between different agencies are badly needed. Here's the Link. The full assessment is a decent sized PDF file, but worth the time.

Thanks for the link! It was a great read, I really appreciate it. Just reading the stats makes that event seem so unreal.
And you know what, I think you're right. Next week's storm is going to be make or break. The setup appears perfect for an icing event though, which is really the last thing we need. I'd rather get a couple feet of snow as opposed to any ice. It's so far out, so we'll see...

Yeah that assessment was sobering. I cannot fathom ever having to go through that, and pray I never do!
I've been hearing the term "Atmospheric River" thrown out a lot here lately in regards to the potential of a California "Arkstorm". You could just about say that's what Nashville and the surrounding area experienced, with the GOM being their moisture source.
I can't wait to get your take on the upcoming system. I agree, give me snow you gotta measure by yardsticks if you must, just keep the ice elsewhere!
