	Dead Rain Gauge

Here in Central Ohio on Friday it rained... alot. From early morning to late night it rained almost non-stop. I was away from my house most of the day, but I had been monitoring my WMR-968 weather station from my phone. I noticed it hadn't recorded any rain all day.

For those of you with a WMR-968, you're probably used to the rain gauge transmitter not sending data to the console consistantly. I know I am, so I wasn't surprised at the 0.00" reading I'd been getting all day.

When I got home that night, I went to the station console and did the channel search like I'd done a million times before, expecting to get my rain totals updated.

It didn't work.

I went outside to inspect the solar transmitter, expecting a hard reset to do the trick, just to find the indicator light was solid red. Usually that means there's a problem with the rain gauge itself. Instead, when I went to remove the transmitter, here's what I found:

However it happened, the line was cut. Great. Just what I needed. That's another purchase from Ambient Weather.

Just wondering.. can't you just splice the cable back together?

I gave a splice a try, but the cable is so flat that it made it difficult to pry back the external layer of the wire to get to the two internal wires. Not to mention, with it being an outdoor wire, chances are that would have short out pretty quickly afterwards.

Also, it was a clean cut. Kind of strange. I don't know if I got it with the weed eater or not. Looks too clean if you ask me.
