Daily Stuff 5-10-12 Problem solved

Hi, folks!

Wicca 103 at 5pm.

By now you’ve seen the notice that the computer went splat. It’s up and running again. Tempus just sortof wiggles his fingers at things and they behave.

It’s bright sunshine again, but it was *darned* cold last night! When I looked at the thermometer at about 5:30 it was in the low 30’s! There was thick frost all over things, but at 8:30 then temp was 46 and it’s around 58F, now.

There birds are all awake, though. There was one dejected-looking little feather ball of a sparrow out there at 8:30, but I’ve seen at least 100 birds since, and there are a dozen right now, throwing shells in all directions.

I went through yesterday’s to-do list and I managed to finish a page… some of that was moving it off to next week, granted, or moving it onto Tempus’ list…

I swept the porch, after moving, weeding and re-planting the planters. There are 30 out there… I got rid of most of the trash and dead cardboard and such, cleaned off the railings (getting rid of the raccoon discourager, since we don’t need it now) cleaned up the porch shelves and re-stacked the pots, and sorted (with Tempus’ help) the tools on the porch, watered the small plants, and cleaned of one of the tables. Phew! …and that’s about ½ of that chore, only…

So, in the house I worked on a bunch of laundry, bleaching and washing some white delicates, among other things. I worked on stuff for the garage sale, pulling glassware from the hutch cabinet & the living room shelves, and sorting some clothing for it, as well.

Late in the day I got a couple of things cooked, another salad for one, and a pea soup that I have to get packaged up this morning.

Tempus had finally managed to get the other tree cut out and dragged the pieces up onto our lawn. We’re going to have some awesome wand wood out of this one… and I spent an hour, at least, cutting pine tips for drying after doing more weeding. Those are going to have to get processed today. Cat gave me a hand while we were waiting for the rest of the folks to show up for esbat. …and the wind was too high to do any burning…. again….. and he did manage to go through some of the tools.

This morning I want to put some beans into the railing boxes. I forgot yesterday, and I want to remember the nasturtiums seeds from the shop, so that I can add those tomorrow. I need to remember the bags of harvested, stuff too, and my first task before the Chamber meeting is to get the stuff priced and out for sale….

I have a Chamber meeting and a Waldport City Council meeting today, so I’m not going to be in the shop much, and then class at 5pm.

In between I need to get the plants that I bought almost 2 weeks ago, into the planter boxes. It’s going to be a long day….

Notice!
We’re on the list for Waldport’s Great Garage Sale, which is this Saturday! We have a couple of people extra going to be here, like the Henna Candle lady, who is going to do henna painting on people, not just candles! Save your shekels for that. We have a couple of spaces left.

We have room for a lot of people to bring their stuff. This is a good time, especially if you live in an out-of-the-way spot, to get rid of some stuff and make some cash in the meantime. Let me know you’re coming, so we don’t overflow the sidewalk! …We’ve room for two more.

The shop opens at 11am and we’ll be there through class time. Spring hours, 11am-7pm, Thursday through Monday. If we’re supposed to be closed, but it looks like we’re there, try the door. If it’s open, the shop’s open!

Love & Light,
Anja

Today
The Moon is waning gibbous. Waning Moon Magick - From the Full Moon to the New is a time for study, meditation, and magic designed to banish harmful energies and habits, for ridding oneself of addictions, illness or negativity. Best time for draining the energy behind illness, habits or addictions. Magicks of this sort, started now, should be ended before the phase change to the New Moon. This phase lasts until Saturday at 5:52pm.

Look for bright Vega moderately low in the northeast after darkness falls, and higher later. To Vega's lower right dangle fainter stars of the little constellation Lyra.
Mars in a telescope is gibbous and small, about 9.5 arcseconds wide, fading and shrinking each week. Mars (magnitude +0.1) shines fire-orange in Leo. It's high in the south-southwest at dusk and lower in the southwest to west later in the evening. Regulus is about 7° Mars's right or lower right and moving farther from it daily. Fainter Gamma Leonis is 8° above Regulus.
Saturn (magnitude +0.4, in Virgo) shines in the southeast in twilight and highest in the south around 11 or midnight daylight saving time. The star 5° to Saturn's lower right in the evening is Spica, slightly fainter and bluer.

Saille Willow Apr 15 - May 12 - The Willow in the Tree alphabet stands for the female and lunar rhythms of life. She is water-seeking, thriving from preference on the damp margins of lakes and streams or across the low-lying water meadows. Water and the tidal movements of the sea are governed by the pull of the moon. The moon in its monthly rhythms is female, contrasting with the male sun's daily and yearly turnings. In several ways, the Celts held women in higher regard than we do today. On the material level, women were property owners, and whoever controlled the property controlled the marriage. Women of all types and ages appeared in the Celtic pantheon, the spiritual strength and life-giving qualities given by both female and male recognized equally. There were colleges of Druidesses - learned women and teachers - respected equally for their gifts of see-ship, often expressed through dreams, or night visions.
Magical Associations: Romantic love, healing, protection, fertility, magic for women.

All are thorny shrubs in the Rose family (Rosaceae), and most have whitish or pinkish flowers. The common hawthorn (Crataegus monogyna Jacq.) and midland hawthorn (Crataegus laevigata (Poiret) DC.) are both widespread. They are common in abandoned fields and along the edges of forests. Both are cultivated in North America, as are several native and Asiatic hawthorns. Curtis Clark

When in doubt, ask yourself, 'How would I behave here at my best?' - Tony Schwartz
Where there is great love, there are always miracles. - Willa Cather
With the Union my best and dearest earthly hopes are entwined. - Franklin Pierce (1804- 1869) 14th US president
Work helps to prevent us from three great evils- weariness, vice and want. – Voltaire

The Challenge of Thor
I am the God Thor,
I am the War God,
I am the Thunderer!
Here in my Northland,
My fastness and fortress,
Reign I forever!
Here amid icebergs
Rule I the nations;
This is my hammer,
Miölner the mighty;
Giants and sorcerers
Cannot withstand it!

These are the gauntlets
Wherewith I wield it,
And hurl it afar off;
This is my girdle;
Whenever I brace it,
Strength is redoubled!

The light thou beholdest
Stream through the heavens,
In flashes of crimson,
Is but my red beard
Blown by the night-wind,
Affrighting the nations!
Jove is my brother;
Mine eyes are the lightning;
The wheels of my chariot
Roll in the thunder,
The blows of my hammer
Ring in the earthquake!

Force rules the world still,
Has ruled it, shall rule it;
Meekness is weakness,
Strength is triumphant,
Over the whole earth
Still is it Thor's Day!

Thou art a God too,
O Galilean!
And thus singled-handed
Unto the combat,
Gauntlet or Gospel,
Here I defy thee!
Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

Magick – A NYC Taxi driver wrote:

I arrived at the address and honked the horn. After waiting a few minutes I honked again. Since this was going to be my last ride of my shift I thought about just driving away, but instead I put the car in park and walked up to the door and knocked.. 'Just a minute', answered a frail, elderly voice. I could hear something being dragged across the floor.

After a long pause, the door opened. A small woman in her 90's stood before me. She was wearing a print dress and a pillbox hat with a veil pinned on it, like somebody out of a 1940's movie.

By her side was a small nylon suitcase. The apartment looked as if no one had lived in it for years. All the furniture was covered with sheets.

There were no clocks on the walls, no knickknacks or utensils on the counters. In the corner was a cardboard box filled with photos and glassware.

'Would you carry my bag out to the car?' she said. I took the suitcase to the cab, then returned to assist the woman.

She took my arm and we walked slowly toward the curb.

She kept thanking me for my kindness. 'It's nothing', I told her... 'I just try to treat my passengers the way I would want my mother to be treated.'

'Oh, you're such a good boy, she said. When we got in the cab, she gave me an address and then asked, 'Could you drive
through downtown?'

'It's not the shortest way,' I answered quickly...

'Oh, I don't mind,' she said. 'I'm in no hurry. I'm on my way to a hospice.

I looked in the rear-view mirror. Her eyes were glistening. 'I don't have any family left,' she continued in a soft voice.. 'The doctor says I don't have very long.' I quietly reached over and shut off the meter.

'What route would you like me to take?' I asked.

For the next two hours, we drove through the city. She showed me the building where she had once worked as an elevator operator.

We drove through the neighborhood where she and her husband had lived when they were newlyweds She had me pull up in front of a furniture warehouse that had once been a ballroom where she had gone dancing as a girl.

Sometimes she'd ask me to slow in front of a particular building or corner and would sit staring into the darkness, saying nothing.

As the first hint of sun was creasing the horizon, she suddenly said, 'I'm tired. Let's go now'.
We drove in silence to the address she had given me. It was a low building, like a small convalescent home, with a driveway that passed under a portico.

Two orderlies came out to the cab as soon as we pulled up. They were solicitous and intent, watching her every move. They must have been expecting her.

I opened the trunk and took the small suitcase to the door. The woman was already seated in a wheelchair.

'How much do I owe you?' She asked, reaching into her purse.

'Nothing,' I said

'You have to make a living,' she answered.

'There are other passengers,' I responded.

Almost without thinking, I bent and gave her a hug. She held onto me tightly.

'You gave an old woman a little moment of joy,' she said. 'Thank you.'

I squeezed her hand, and then walked into the dim morning light.. Behind me, a door shut. It was the sound of the closing of a life.

I didn't pick up any more passengers that shift. I drove aimlessly lost in thought. For the rest of that day, I could hardly talk. What if that woman had gotten an angry driver, or one who was impatient to end his shift? What if I had refused to take the run, or had honked once, then driven away?

On a quick review, I don't think that I have done anything more important in my life.

We're conditioned to think that our lives revolve around great moments.

But great moments often catch us unaware-beautifully wrapped in what others may consider a small one.

Silliness – GCF: Dog Grooming

A lady took her dog to the groomer at pet store for a haircut and asked what it would cost.

The receptionist looked at her from behind the counter and told her that a bath and haircut started at around fifty dollars, but there were many options, so the price could vary.

Holding on to her dog's leash, the potential customer was visibly outraged.

"I only pay $25 for my own haircut!" said the woman indignantly.

The groomer replied, "That may be true, but then you don't bite, do you?"
