The Politics of Gasoline

GASOLINE AND POLITICS; THEY WILL GO HAND AND HAND COME THIS NOVEMBER! JUST THROW IN SOME COAL POWERED ELECTRIC PLANT SHUT DOWNS AND THE RECIPE IS SET FOR BROWN OUTS THIS SUMMER...

In my humble opinion, I do believe that the winner of the upcoming Presidential election in November will be decided by the pocketbook issue of gasoline prices. Gasoline prices will directly influence inflation and what we are paying for groceries and other needs. Additionally higher gasoline prices WILL have a direct impact on the alleged economic recovery that the current Obama administration wants us Americans to believe we are experiencing.

Link Do Republicans Realize That Keystone Pipeline Won’t Bring Gas to U.S.? Though it’s become a firebrand issue that labels Obama as the “anti-oil president,” the TransCanada pipeline was never meant to bring gas to the U.S. It would go to Asia.

Economics always determines an election, no matter what else is going on.

It varies. In the past ten days, my favorite station has gone from $3.47 to $3.59. It's still possible to find it at $3.55. The highest I've seen is $3.64.

What's more (equally) distressing is the rising cost of food and other goods. In the past two months, the wholesale cost of a quart of varnish has risen $3.55. Food is going through the roof. My 29 cents per pound bananas? 59 cents per pound. And so on.

Oh - and that electricity bill? As high last month as I've ever paid, even at the height of summer. Price gouging? Maybe. Taking advantage of a situation? Perhaps. But it spells trouble in a number of ways, especially for the fixed-income people. Luckily, I can put in more hours.

At least I won't have to use gas to go to my former doctor. He's rather a distance away. But never mind - he's stopped taking anyone of medicare age because of the coming and current changes under Obamacare.

The gas is going to be a problem for a friend in Austin who couldn't find any doctor to accept her as a medicare patient. She has to drive to a small town outside Austin now to be seen.

Not a political argument, just the facts. If you think it's bad now, just wait.

The price of regular unbranded unleaded gasoline has been holding steady here in the NOLA area at approximately $3.57 a gallon. It is still possible to find a rare retailer selling it under $3.50. The average for the name brand regular unleaded is around $3.70 a gallon, and higher at some locations.

These higher fuel prices is going to take a big bite out of discretionary spending by consumers and put another spike in the heart of the economy.

$8.43 today. A slight drop mainly because the dollar rose a little against the Euro.
