A LITTLE MUSIC FOR YOU WHILE YOU READ MY BLOG
~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ sunday november 22, 1949 looks like i am following suite with the family and getting sick also.
Saturday November 21, 1949 Check out my comment at number 7 for an update on what has been happening since my last update. What a week this has been.
Thursday November 20, 1949 Today I turn 60. There are days that I feel like I'm 90, but that's the way of life I guess. This morning we had some light rain showers that have left the ground and payment wet. The temperatures are finally starting to come into alignment with normal temperatures for this time of year for us. I even heard that parts of Southern Minnesota and Northern Iowa got a little snow. It's that time of the year and just think, Thanksgiving day is just around the corner. Where did the year go? Seems like March was just yesterday.
I had a scare yesterday morning. I woke up to the voice of my wife calling my name only to find out that she was on the floor. Apparently her left leg gave out while she was trying to put her shoes on while standing (she commonly does this because she has slip on shoes). She had one hand on the dresser and the other hand on the roll about desk chair for stability. When her left leg started to give way, she tried to catch herself, but of course the chair moved and she fell down to the floor full weight on her right knee, the knee she had the surgery on 3 years ago. Of course the first thing was to get her up off the floor and on to a chair or the bed so I could check out the extent of damage. This proved to be much harder than I expected. She didn't have the strength to lift even half of her weight with her legs and I couldn't pick he up myself. After thinking about it for a while, I had her turn with her back towards the corner of the bed that I was sitting on. Then I got my hands around under her arms and lifted while she pushed with her legs. After two tries, I managed to get he sitting on the edge of the bed. Then I proceeded to examine her leg. It showed a little bruising, but no swelling so I thought she was going to be alright. I went back to bed to get a little more rest before taking her to work. She woke me up and asked me if I could wrap a elastic wrap around her leg so she could walk easier at work. I took one look at the knee which had doubled in size now and was really black and blue where she had landed on the knee. At that point, I decided that she was going to see the doctor. The surgeon that did the knee replacement surgery had warned me that if my wife were to receive any injuries or get any infections, to get my wife into the doctor. So I called the nurse line to ask what they advised. 20 minutes later I got a nurse on the line and I explained to her what had happened. She made an appointment for us at 9am. Thank God we have the gift car, it was very important for us to have it at this time.
I got her to the clinic at a minute past 9. The nurse who took my wife in found out that her blood pressure was sky high (190/132, normal is 120/80). The nurse had to check the BP twice to be sure she was getting the correct reading. When the doctor came in, he ordered a set of X-Rays for my wife's knee. The X-Rays showed that nothing was broken or out of place. Thank God once again. The doctor ended up having my wife's knee wrapped with an ACE bandage and gave her prescriptions for pain and for the blood pressure. After I finally got my wife back home, I gave her the medicine and put her to bed. I thought that this was the end of the stress for the day. I was wrong!
My son called home and asked me to come pick him up. Turns out that he started getting sick with nausea, vertigo, and headaches. Since he is a school bus driver, he was required to disqualify himself from any further driving for the day and called me to come pick him up. He wouldn't even drive himself home. He is going into the doctor this afternoon. Seems that the flu may have finally caught up with him.
