Strange Northern Weather...
Here is an image showing the temperatures for the usual biggest cities in Canada. But if you look higher, you will see I added some writing to show you what's going on there. The winds are from the NE for Inuvik (the one furthest to the west) they are from the N for the locality in the middle, Paulatuk and from the SW for the one further East, Kugluktuk. I never knew temperatures could get that high for a village so far to the north. I mean it is warmer there than in Oklahoma City, OK; New Orleans, LA; and even Orlando and Miami, FL!

Thunderstorm:
Yesterday at 12:15AM, I experienced a pretty strong line of thunderstorms for my region's standards. I gathered several images of Radars during the event... Before it started to rain winds quickly picked up to gusts of 45-50 mph for about 10 mins and then the rain came down. It was so heavy that at one point, I could only see about 400m (about 1300ft) from where I was standing. Which I think is pretty amazing for rain. There was also INTENSE lightning. When I say Intense, it was. There wasn't much cloud to ground lightning but a lot of cloud to cloud. I usually saw about 4-5 flashes in 5 seconds. Several houses affected by the line in several communities were burned down because of the lightning. There were some wind reports as well like this one...

Cold front passed when I was writting this... The sky was unbelievably dark for the intensity of the line (only rain). At 8:30 the temperature was 21C and Dewpoint at 10C, 8:49.. Temperature 14C and Dewpoint 13C! Wind picked up too when the front passed but right now there's only light rain and almost no wind. It's strange because it looks exactly like the one I talked about above but MUCH weaker. Same Path and same length...

SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS WATCHES and MESOSCALE DISCUSSION
A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH ENCOMPASSES PRACTICALLY ALL OF SOUTHWESTERN QUEBEC AND SOUTHERN ONTARIO...
QUEBEC
WEATHER CONDITIONS FOR THESE REGIONS ARE FAVOURABLE FOR THE DEVELOPMENT OF SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS. SOME OF THESE STORMS COULD PRODUCE LARGE HAIL - DAMAGING WINDS - HEAVY RAIN AND INTENSE LIGHTNING. PERSONS IN THESE REGIONS SHOULD BE ON THE LOOKOUT FOR THESE WEATHER CONDITIONS AND LISTEN FOR SUBSEQUENT WATCHES AND PARTICULARLY WARNINGS WHICH WILL BE ISSUED IF SEVERE WEATHER THREATENS. THIS WATCH IS IN EFFECT FROM 1:20 PM TO 8:00 PM EDT.
A LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM OVER THE QUEBEC AND ONTARIO BORDER IS SLOWLY
TRACKING OVER THE PROVINCE OF QUEBEC. WITH THE WARM, HUMID AND
UNSTABLE AIRMASS OVER SOUTHERN QUEBEC, THUNDERSTORMS POTENTIALLY
SEVERE COULD DEVELOP DURING THE DAY AND IN THE EVENING OVER CONCERNED AREAS.
ONTARIO
Severe thunderstorms are possible early this afternoon and evening.
This is an alert to the potential development of severe thunderstorms with large hail and damaging winds.
Monitor weather conditions..Listen for updated statements. If threatening weather approaches take immediate safety precautions.
Weather radar and satellite show scattered severe thunderstorms are developing in the hot and humid air. These storms are capable of producing torrential rain and damaging wind gusts up to 100 km/h.
A cold front currently over northeastern Ontario will sweep across southern Ontario today triggering thunderstorms early this afternoon and evening in the hot and humid airmass. A few thunderstorms will also trigger before the advance of the cold front over southwestern and southcentral Ontario along lake breeze boundaries which will form off of Lake Erie and Lake Ontario.
There is potential that some of these thunderstorms may become severe with main threats being damaging winds...Torrential downpours...And intense lightning. Hail is also possible and there is a lesser risk of a tornado.

Derecho? - Yes
Is this a Derecho? (Click for Larger Image)

Is sure looks like it. I am also wondering about the line in front of the whole complex (just ahead); is it a gust front? Everytime I see a Derecho I see an associated line in front so that's why I think it's a Derecho. Here is the associated Mesoscale Discussion...

3-4 Supercells south of Brandon, MB
I don't know if I am right but I see 3 supercells in this radar loop as well as 4 tornadoes. There are Tornado Warnings for all three cells. I have never seen so many supercells one beside each other and they are probably all producing tornadoes because of the visible hooks. Location: Just around Brandon, Manitoba. The same region yesterday saw 4 tornadoes as well. One was F4... I don't know about the others.

This is a quick blog entry because as soon as I saw that, I knew it was something very unusual and I would like to have it in my archive. Comments greatly appreciated to know if I am right about this "very unusual" event.

Severe Thunderstorms - June 19, 2007
First of all, I was away for the passed three weeks so if any severe weather events occurred, well, I wasn't near a computer the whole time. There were probably some events in the red circle below in the past weeks because I don't think it's possible to have 3 weeks of nothing. Anyways now I am back and today there is some severe storms to talk about and it's only 12:40 as I'm writing this.
