Another tiring Monday
Posted by: TheRasberryPatch, 12:21 PM GMT on April 30, 2007 +0
Amazing how Monday's can be so drab. No wonder after working outside and around the house all weekend. Well, I finally have the pool looking good. Amazing how new filters can make everything work. I was struggling to get the pool clean because the filters were done. Cleaning them was not doing the trick. Ahhhhh. Now I know what to do when I come to this problem again. I wonder what is next with the pool.
The weather this weekend wasn't bad. We have definitely had better. It was mostly cloudy Saturday with a temp near 70 and low humidity. I got the garage cleaned out and loaded up the new shed. the pool is set up for the most part except for the water to be at peak chemical composition. and the house was cleaned. you ladies will like this, YES, I dust and vacuum. Sunday, was mostly sunny with some passing clouds and the temp got into the low 70's. I got the grass cut and fertilized and the new patio table put together. Dinner turned out great. I cooked a london broil on the grill. Medium rare of course. Baked potatoes on the grill (no foil) and grilled some spicy shrimp (a great recipe). Then I steamed some brocolli in the microwave with Bird's Eye brand bag. What a good idea and it works great. the brocolli comes out as green as in the garden. Oh and to top of the brocolli I had to make a yummy cheddar cheese sauce.
Now, I have to think of what's next around the house to get in shape for the summer. Probably more weeding to start.
Have a good Monday.

Monday after a Warm Weekend
Posted by: TheRasberryPatch, 1:55 PM GMT on April 23, 2007 +0
What a great weekend. Temperatures on Saturday were in the mid 70's and yesterday it reached 78 yesterday without a cloud in the sky. I live not too far from a regional airport (usually single engine planes) and the planes were out all weekend. it isn't bad having them fly overheard because their engines are fairly quiet.
It was a tiring weekend though. My pool has been such a problem. It was opened on Wednesday. Not ever having a pool of this magnitude I didn't realize that as long as the water isn't frozen you should be shocking the pool every month. Well, the pool was full of worms and dirt and was green. I have the pool blue, but getting the dirt out has been one big headache. I think I vacuumed most of the worms out, but the problem is that my filters keep getting clogged. I think I have cleaned the filters at least 8 times this weekend. It is not a fun task. I am so disheartened with this pool right now. It seems like it will take me another two weeks to get the pool cleaned. I didn't realize how much work can be with a pool if it wasn't taken care of all winter. Not that I even knew you had to take care of a pool during the winter. I sure wish the previous owners would have given me some advice.
Other than the pool, the grass got cut, the raspberries were weeded, the weed preventer was scattered throughout the gardens and the potatoes were planted.
I am so glad that the weather is cooperating. I just wish it could have started earlier so I can get the pool clean. Ugh, what a mess. For now I am just letting the dirt and stuff settle to the bottom and vacuum and brush and vacuum and brush and vacuum and brush. Ugh.

Rainy Days on a Monday
Posted by: TheRasberryPatch, 1:36 PM GMT on April 16, 2007 +0
WEll, the snow never developed, but the rain and wind has. We have gotten almost 2 inches of rain since Saturday evening. The wind has kicked up since yesterday afternoon and has gotten stronger as the night has turned to day. Our highest gust so far has been 35 mph. the temperatures are somewhat steady after dropping most of the night to 35. As historians from the east coast beaches will tell you, they aren't concerned with hurricanes as much as nor'easters. nor'easters usually last a lot longer with pounding surf and winds. with a nor'easter you can get hurricane force winds for a long period of time. just a few snowflakes this morning were flying with the rain. It won't be long before we get to spring. : )

Can you believe it they are saying we may get some snow on Sunday. We are 20 degrees below normal and the winds are a bit strong.
I am opening the pool next week and they are talking worst case scenario, which is like 10%, that we could get a foot of snow. Again, that is highly unlikely, but a couple of inches is more likely.
At least I didn't put the snowblower away. I have been waiting for my shed to be delivered. Well, it was delivered today, but they put the wrong door on the shed and now they are going to swap it out next week for the correct shed. The door on there now can not be swapped out for a new one, so they have to make a whole new shed and replace it. I was hoping to load up the shed this weekend and cut the grass. Oh well.

Have a good weekend. the weekend's here and we'll have a can of beeeeeerrrrrrrrrrr eeeeeeeeerrrr

Tuesday Morn

As usual another cold start to a bright and sunny day. Now if only we can get the plains and upper mid-west to cooperate with the temperatures, since that is where most of our weather comes from here in the northeast. It is 32 degrees with a calm wind for now. I would love to see warm temperatures starting today, but it doesn't appear that we will be anywhere near normal for the next few days. Oh well. Believe in spring, it's on its way. Believe in spring it's on its way. As Moose A Moose sings.

Easter Monday
Posted by: TheRasberryPatch, 1:18 PM GMT on April 09, 2007 +0
another cold start to an April day. Easter turned out very well at my house yesterday. I had my family from Baltimore up for dinner. Mmmmmmmm. I cooked a whole smoked ham, stuffed a lamb with grecian stuffing and a cottage potatoes. They each brought a side dish to enjoy. Everything turned out great. A bottle of red Cabernet was good also. From 2004. We watched the Masters on the big screen in HD. It was a great time. We had a egg hunt for all the kids, even the 17 year olds got to participate. Easter for my kids in the morning was special. Watching my almost 4 year old daughter walk into our bedroom at 7am with a basket of some eggs she had already found and a DVD of Peter Pan was shocking. I would have never had guessed she would have gone down without us. I just had to laugh to myself about it though and tell her to wait until I washed my hands and face to go back down and look for more eggs and her basket.

Good Friday

Another cold morning with wind chills in the low 20's and sometimes inthe teens. the low temperature was 29 degrees. the daffodils are laying on the ground. I hope the sun will bring the back up.
this was a very sad day for the disciples of Jesus. the love they had for Jesus and they thought he would be with them for a long time teaching them and giving them so much more insight. But it wasn't to be that way. The mass last night was so spiritual. To experience a Holy Thursday mass, for me, is so enriching. The Gospel according to John about that account of celebrating the Passover really makes you think. The celebration and reverence given to this special moment makes you feel so good and so blessed. I just love how the church makes everything so special. Bringing up the special oils and displaying them. It is just so spiritual. The singing of the special songs.
Then there is today. To go to a stations of the cross and see what our Lord went through on this day. To sing "Were you there". That song chokes me up all the time. Same with the song last night when we sang the opening hymn of "At that first Eucharist". I think that Holy Week and Easter is the most spiritual and inspirational time of the year. We need Christmas to have Easter, but Easter is about our Lord, Jesus Christ dying for us and our sins. That is what Easter is all about, Charlie Brown.

Thirsty Thursday

Well it was a celebratory reception for awhile with the Apostles on the feast of the Passover. I love going to church in the evening on this day and taking in the atmosphere of moment and what it has meant to so many people. What a profound moment to be sitting in the presence of the Lord and to be eating with him as he celebrated the Passover. Not to mention when he washed the feet of his disciples.
Anyway, a profound start to the day. I wake up and see snow flying from the sky. It lightly dusted the ground for a bit before the sun could burn it off. A cold and blustery day today. The temperature right now is 34 degrees. the winds are gusty averaging speeds of 10mph with gust up to 22 mph.
I just hope the flowers can withstand the weather for a few days.

Transition Wednesday

A cold and raining start to the day. It is 41 degrees and raining. From today until next week we are expecting below normal temperatures and below freezing temperatures at night. I don't have any fruit trees, so I am lucky that the blossoms won't be destroyed. I have lots of daffodils and hyacinths that have bloomed nicely that I am afraid will probably be killed by the cold temperatures. It was very windy last night. Almost a bit eery to be out inthe wind with the moon. : )

Another Tuesday

Well, the harem never showed up. Oh, well. I can wish again next year when I blow out the candles.
Another froggy start to the morning. We had a nice sunny day yesterday with a nice breeze. It did get a bit windy at times. It is supposed to be just as warm today, but that is suppose to be the end of the warm weather for about a week. They are talking about low 40's by the end of the week.

Birthday Monday
Posted by: TheRasberryPatch, 12:25 PM GMT on April 02, 2007 +0
Today is my Birthday we're so glad you came along. Today is my Birthday we're so glad you came along.
Amazing how the numbers are there, but I still feel like a kid. Except for the sore back when I work out in the garden and yard all day long like I did Saturday. It took me about 12 secs to straighten up from being on my knees for a few hours. That was out in the garden, not what you were thinking. Get your mind out of the gutter. : ) I wish. : )
A nice start to a Monday. The sun is breaking through the frog (as my daughter says) and is burning it off fast. The temperature is a mild 45 and is expected to get in the 70's with sunny skies. can't ask for much better. My daughter and son gave me a Bob the Builder birthday card. And a dozen golf balls and some colored socks. My wife and daughter made a cake last night and iciing and decorated it. The winds are mostly calm.
Have a good week.
