Another quiet day on the prairie.
Yesterday the Queen took me shopping. While waiting for her to go through the checkout I went and sat at a bench with another gentleman. He noticed my white ID cane and commented on it. I told him how I had come to need it and he asked if I still drove. A friend of his came to the bench and the felow I was siting with asked the newcommer if he still saddle broke horses. He said no and explainded that he couldn't kift his arm past shoulder height but suggested he hitch the horses to a stone boat till they tired and then try to ride them. I guess that bench is reserved for us older disabled men to use while the wives shop.
When the Queen was done we went to the parking lot and couldn't remember where she had parked our car. It's funny that when I'm not driving I don't pay attention to where we are. A lady noticed us and asked if we were lost. When we told her our situation she suggested the Queen press the buton for the alarm to blow the horn which worked. I suggested to the Queen that I'll start carring my GPS to locate the car.The golden years sure are fun.:)
I've completed my webcam light project and will try it out tonight.
Today's roject is to install some helving in the daughters room. Keeping myself busy sure shortens the day.
Only 3 more sleeps till till I land on the Rock. Hopefully Irene will have past by then.

Good morning, Tony! There is a small village about four miles from home that used to have a small store on the main road through town. It had a front porch with a bench, and often you'd see retired men hang out there. My grandmother told me it was called "The liars' bench", because of all the tales that were told there! Of course, I am in no way insinuating that the bench in the store in Portage was a liars' bench, lol!

I have one more night of work, so I'll have to check out your cam light handiwork then. Have a great day!

Good morning Tony, now days instead of a bench for old men to sit and chat, most now congregate at a coffee shop to swop stories and make new friends. My 80+ year old uncle still makes the trip into town to go and chat with the "boys" up in Espanola, Ont a little town west of Sudbury. It gets him out of the house and helps to keep his mind sharp. He was a mechanical engineer and always loved working with his hands. Even here in town, you can go into any coffee shop/restaurant on a Sat morning and see a group of guys sitting together having breakfast and coffee, chatting. Personally I think its great....

Well looks like its going to be a warm one for us today with temps going back up to the low 90s high 80s but back cooler tomorrow again and the rest of the wknd. Still waiting to see if we will see any rain from H-Irene when she reaches NYC. Forecasters for here are saying we may get some of the wind from the outer bands so we will just have to wait and see.

Have a great Sat dear ones. Not much doing here for now.

Morning Tony,

Still HOT in Texas but we did have a nice shower Thursday a.m. I am still house, horse and dog sitting for friends in Rockport. They are touring Yellowstone Park today where the temperatures are much better than here.

In the small town where I grew up in Nebraska the farmers pretty much gathered at the Green Top Cafe. Mom always referred to it as the College of Agriculture. They still gather there today, although a newcomer showed up twenty plus years ago (Speedy Shop) that gets a gathering to but it is an upstart compared to the length of time the Green Top has been around.

Enjoy your day and I hope Irene does not mess with your travel plans.

On the squares in a lot of Texas towns, there used to be domino games going on - along with the story-swapping. (No lying, ever, of course! Just a little "embroidery"!).

I think Irene's not going to be a problem for you. She's still a storm, but clearly weakening. Thank goodness!
