According to Australia's weather bureau, ocean surface temperatures in the central equatorial Pacific have continued to warm and now surpass levels typical of an El Nino event by their greatest margin of the year.

The tornado fatality that occurred in Washington County on Friday, October 9th was the first death from a tornado in Mississippi in 4 years or since 2005.

September tornado reports lowest in many years

It was unusually quiet last month when it comes to tornadoes-so I went and looked at past data from the Storm Prediction Center through 2000 and then looked at data from the National Climatic Data Center and found that the month of September recorded the lowest number of tornado reports since the early 1950s!!!

The first rains of October 2009 moved across the state Thursday night and early Friday morning, with average rainfall amounts from 1/2 inch up to 1 inch, across the state.

The last day of September 2009 was beautiful across the state of Mississippi.

This was truly a top 10 day for the state and not a bad way to end the month, after days of rainfall, with several locations setting new September rainfall records.
