A little about my self -

I joined weather Underground in August of 2005 right after they opened the blogging feature. I have been a weather hobbyist since the middle 60's when I lived on the west coast of Florida, north of the Tampa Bay area. I currently live in a small community in central Illinois.

I have been through numerous Hurricanes during my life time. The worse being Hurricane Camille in August 17,1969, A Cat 5, where the eye passed over the location I was at. That being Biloxi, Ms when I was in the USAF stationed at Keesler AFB.

Checking in on cold FL nite, after 77F yesterday. WTH?? Finally got normal temps of old? Nahhh, Ma Nature says otherwise. 28f overnight, with high of "yikes" 49F? WTH?? Humidity of only 25% tomo? Lanolin please! We'll crack and burn! Know it seems minor to you all, but severe temp change is difficult. Past two years was cold, & anomaly, give us back our norm! Wishing you all a mild winter. Know it's not norm, & falls into global warming theorist's (which I believe in), but hey, this is FL, where winters are supposed to be easy and mild. Otherwise, we know of a snuggly Wab to snuggle. Brrrr

Code~ I'm seeing high of 48 with wind tomorrow. Skyepony is going to want his sheet all day. Probably need his heavy blanket tomorrow night. May have a freeze even. Got the garden ready so I wouldn't have to do it in the cold tomorrow. My shaggy BusterBrownpony is loving this weather.

Glad to hear you've warmed up some, wab. Same here but we didn't get quite as cold as you did.

It hit something like 23F here Tuesday a.m., just shy of setting a record low.

It was back up to shirtsleeve weather this afternoon and we're looking at highs near 70F this weekend.

Talk about roller coaster weather.

Wab, we've got black bears down here. I've never seen one but once in a blue moon, you'll hear about one being seen up in or around Georgetown, SC.

SC has a black bear hunting season but only in October and only in Oconee, Greenville and Pickens counties.

I don't think Dad has a favorite pro football team. His peference is college football. esp his alma mater, Clemson. That's followed by college basketball. Again, his favorite team is Clemson. But he'll watch just about any college game.

He does like his Braves baseball.

If a good game is on, he'll stay up past his usual bedtime of 8:00 or 8:30. Sometimes even earlier. Though he tends to go to bed a little earlier now than he used to do (he's 84), he's always been early to bed, early to rise. I guess it comes from being raised on a farm.

Its good that your dad is interested in sports!!!

Hi Wab, Sometimes. However, it is a bit unusual. It has to be a huge wrap around going East to West on the backside of a low or something. We are 28 miles to the Lake. Due West. The majority of the Lake effect snow happens within only a few miles, but it does happen here in McHenry County sometimes. Our house borders Lake County, which sees a lot of Lake effect. Sometimes it comes down from Kenosha on the wrap.
Winds in the fields and segments of open roads will be the issue here with this storm. Those are all around us to get where we need to go, even into the more populated areas. There is still a lot of farming, or open flat lands up here.

Hope the g-kids get to go sledding at least once this year!

Well we got hit hard by Mother Nature today.. between 5-6 inches of snow with falling temps all day which is at 14 degrees right now ..

Winds are starting to pick up blowing the snow around causing some drifting on country roads...drifting will continue over night causing hazardous road conditions ... visibility is down to just over a mile ..

wind chills near zero right now are expected to drop to -5 to -10 degrees overnight ..

Much different then the 54 degrees and sunny skies yesterday ..
