Slateford Yard used to be known as Slateford Junction - a point where freight trains stayed west of the Delaware River and passenger trains went east into New Jersey across a bridge spanning the Delaware River. The bridge still exists...but the tracks on it have been removed. Below is a previously-uploaded WunderPhoto showing the bridge...and additional information.

Decades ago, this was the operation of a single railroad. But presently, Slateford Yard is the northern end of a Norfolk-Southern route and the southern end of the Delaware-Lackawanna Railroad. The two companies occasionally exchange equipment at Slateford Yard. For example, the empty cars in the newer photo will be loaded at a lumber yard, which is a customer of the D-L RR. Although Slateford Yard is in PA, barely visible through the empty cars is the river; and beyond is the fifth most-elevated hill in NJ.
